William Chris Vineyards has opened a tasting room on Main Street in Fredericksburg, Texas, inside the historic Maier Building dating to 1874.
FREDERICKSBURG, Texas, Oct. 19, 2026, (WHERE & WHAT TO EAT) — Texas winery William Chris Vineyards has opened a new tasting room at 101 E. Main Street in downtown Fredericksburg.
William Chris Fredericksburg occupies the historic Maier Building, a limestone property constructed in 1874 by Edward Maier as a general store. The building later housed the Bank of Fredericksburg, a saloon, an American Legion meeting hall and a Piggly Wiggly grocery store.
According to the winery, historical research guided the restoration and design of the property, including hand-painted signage based on archival photographs, historic images and decorative elements influenced by German folk art.
The Maier Building is the third century-old property William Chris has helped preserve and restore. The winery previously restored the original farmhouse at its Hye estate and the historic Hye Post Office, which reopened earlier this year as the home of Rebecca Caroline Sparkling.
William Chris has also invited local residents to submit photographs, memories and stories connected to the Maier Building for inclusion in a collection documenting the property’s history.
“We've been part of the Hill Country for 18 years, and Fredericksburg is where my family lives. I grew up in rural Texas, and Main Street towns like this one are what I love about this state. This building has been part of the community a lot longer than we have. Our job is to take care of it and add our chapter to its story,” said Chris Brundrett, Co-Founder of William Chris Vineyards.
Founded in 2008 by Bill Blackmon and Brundrett, William Chris Vineyards produces wines exclusively from Texas-grown grapes. The winery ranked No. 31 on the 2025 World’s 50 Best Vineyards list.
William Chris Fredericksburg is currently operating under a soft opening with walk-in tastings available. The company’s original estate and tasting room in Hye, Texas, remains open.
